Community Partnerships

At SJI, we pride ourselves on being a committed community partner, assisting local, regional and statewide organizations that deliver support to those in need, providing funding and contributing many volunteer hours to programs that benefit the communities we serve.
 

Partnership for Youth Success Program

SJI partners with the U.S. Army through the Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Program to provide U.S. Army youth and veterans with an opportunity to serve their country while they prepare for their future. Through the PaYS Program, SJI guarantees soldiers an interview and possible employment after the Army.

VETS Food Drive for the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces

In partnership with the Red Cross, SJI’s Veterans Engagement Team (VETS) collects thousands of pounds of food during their food drive by setting up collection points throughout New Jersey. VETS encourages customers, employees and families from SJI’s subsidiaries, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, to drop off non-perishable items. Volunteers then deliver several truckloads of food to the Red Cross for distribution.

VETS is an employee resource group at SJI that supports the personal growth and professional development of former servicemen and women. The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program provides home comforts and critical services on bases, in military hospitals and supports military families during deployments and emergencies.

American Heart Association Walk

The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Heart Walk is an annual fundraising event to support heart disease and stroke research. In 2026, approximately 100 SJI employees participated in the annual Spring Heart Walk. SJI ERGs and employees helped contribute to the 2026 Southern New Jersey Heart Walk, raising $34,000 for the American Heart Association. 

The Nature Conservancy New Jersey

SJI regularly provides funding and volunteer support to The Nature Conservancy New Jersey (TNC), our state’s chapter of the global environmental nonprofit, works to create a world where people and nature can thrive. In addition to partnering with TNG, SJI also volunteers with other conservation organizations on various planting and cleanup efforts throughout New Jersey.

Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

Community starts at home, and we are committed to serving and making a difference in the lives of our customers, employees, and members of the communities we serve.

  

Each year, our employees honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by participating in MLK Day of Service activities, helping those around us in ways that reflect our Core Values – safety, service, community, inclusion, and innovation. Projects include making cards and crafts for older adults, school children and community members, and distributing food and critical supplies to local organizations.
