Talent

At SJI, we work to build a culture of inclusion where employees feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work each day – regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, generation, disability status, or any other distinguishing factors that make up a diverse workforce. We support courageous conversations to grow in our DEI journey and seek diverse talent to strengthen our business.

Discovering and Embracing Differences

SJI’s discussion-based programs offer insight into our company’s diversity gaps, increase DEI awareness and inform our efforts as we continue to strengthen our culture of inclusion and belonging. These include focus group listening sessions, and SJI’s courageous conversations series, which aim to provide employees with a safe, casual environment to discuss social issues, and adapt, express and listen to diverse and sometimes challenging perspectives. The OneSJI Diversity Podcast also provides employees with the opportunity to be spotlighted, tell their stories and help SJI’s workforce build cultural competency and awareness around various dimensions of diversity.

Leading Inclusively

In 2021, we launched the Diversity Council. This cross-disciplinary committee consists of a diverse representation of our organization’s key leaders. The Diversity Council is responsible for providing strategic guidance to the company and ensuring support and focus on diversity and inclusion initiatives throughout the organization. In addition, SJI built a dedicated Diversity and Inclusion team to develop strategy and tactics, as well as provide the structure that aids in administering a broader focus on D&I solutions at the organization. The D&I team, positioned within Human Resources, now leads all D&I efforts and works collaboratively across the organization.

Engaging Employees

At SJI, our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a vital role in promoting workforce development, community partnerships, employee engagement, and inclusion. Each of SJI’s six ERGs are sponsored by an executive leader who provides support and serves as a link between the needs of the ERG and SJI’s executive leadership, including the Diversity Council. SJI also launched its OneSJI Diversity Podcast, which provides employees with the opportunity to be spotlighted, tell their stories, and help SJI’s workforce build cultural competency and awareness around various dimensions of diversity.
