Elizabethtown Gas Receives Approval of Its Largest Ever Energy Efficiency Program

UNION, NJ, October 31, 2024 – Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of SJI, announced that the company received New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) approval to significantly expand its energy efficiency program, providing increased energy and cost-saving opportunities for residential, commercial, & industrial customers. The $219.9M energy efficiency program consists of $133.5 million of direct investment, $71.7 million in financing options and $14.7 million in operation and maintenance expenses. The new program cycle will begin January 1, 2025, and run through June 30, 2027.

Elizabethtown Gas is committed to advancing New Jersey’s clean energy goals in a manner that will benefit customers, the environment and the State’s economy. The program positions Elizabethtown Gas to meet or exceed its annual energy consumption reduction targets set by the New Jersey Clean Energy Act. Fully subscribed, the program could help customers save $126.6 million in energy costs and over 64 million therms over its lifetime, which equates to preventing the release of over 375,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere – the same as removing over 81,160 cars from New Jersey roadways for a year.

“SJI and our subsidiaries remain committed to providing safe, reliable, affordable energy to our over 735,000 natural gas customers throughout the State. By prioritizing energy efficiency, we aim to provide customers with energy-saving tools and resources that help reduce emissions and drive positive environmental outcomes,” said Melissa Orsen, President, SJI Utilities. “In line with the NJBPU and the New Jersey Clean Energy Act, we are committed to making significant strides in championing a cleaner energy future for the State.”

Elizabethtown Gas will offer a comprehensive suite of residential, multifamily, commercial and industrial energy efficiency programs that will encourage all customers, regardless of customer type or income, to reduce energy usage and save money. The programs include rebates and on-bill repayment options for energy efficiency equipment upgrades, an efficient products marketplace featuring discounted smart thermostats, free weatherization measures for moderate-income customers, and tailored solutions for commercial and industrial customers.

Elizabethtown Gas will expand its recently launched Workforce Development Program, which provides free educational opportunities, technical training, and certification to support and advance a clean energy workforce and economy.

“Elizabethtown Gas is thrilled to announce the expansion of our energy efficiency programs, a significant step in our mission of providing safe, reliable, affordable energy,” said Christie McMullen, President & COO, Elizabethtown Gas. “With this expansion, we’re proud to offer energy-saving tools and resources for our residential, commercial, & industrial customers. By investing in energy efficiency, we aim to empower our customers to manage energy usage, which helps foster a more sustainable future for our communities and environment.”
