“We are delighted that the Stockton Inn leveraged the ETG Direct Install Program to modernize their historic building with essential energy-efficient upgrades,” said Melissa Orsen, Senior Vice President, SJI. “These improvements are intended to drive substantial cost savings, enhancing both sustainability and operational efficiency. We encourage other businesses to take advantage of these opportunities and invest in a smarter, more energy-conscious future.”

“By empowering small businesses to lower their energy costs with energy-efficient upgrades, we are not only helping businesses reduce energy costs, but also helping ensure small businesses like the historic Stockton Inn remain a staple in their community,” said New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Christine Guhl-Sadovy. “Congratulations to the Stockton Inn and Elizabethtown Gas on this incredible project.”

The comprehensive project incorporated gas and electric measures with the following equipment: air conditioner rooftop units with gas heat, smart thermostats, dual enthalpy economizers, electronic fuel use economizers, and demand control ventilation.

The energy efficiency savings from the Stockton Inn project are forecasted to result in an annual savings of 2,835 therms and yearly electric savings of 11,415 kWh. The total project cost was $158,510, and the total project incentive was $126,808. Elizabethtown Gas also offered the Stockton Inn participation in its On-Bill Repayment Program (5 years at 0%) for the customer portion of the project cost and a total of $31,702.

The Stockton Inn has been a cornerstone of the Stockton community for over 300 years. After closing in 2017, the inn reopened in 2024 following extensive renovations that preserved its historic charm while introducing updated guest accommodations, a tavern, and an upscale Italian restaurant.

"The Borough of Stockton is delighted to have the Stockton Inn reopened. It is an amazing place and an important part of our community’s history,” said Mike Mann, Stockton Borough Council President. “It’s wonderful that the Inn’s current owners are showing concern for our environment and are moving forward with an energy efficient plan.”

“We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of this project and the reopening of this historic inn,” said Anthony Rudolf, Managing Partner of the Stockton Inn. “Restoring a beloved facility comes with unique challenges, but these improvements allow us to operate more efficiently while providing an even better experience for our guests. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter.”
