SJI Celebrates Earth Day with Groundbreaking Event, Community Service and Education Initiatives
FOLSOM, NJ, April 19, 2024 – In celebration of Earth Day, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, two subsidiaries of SJI, provided resources and supported local efforts through a series of initiatives. Employees broke ground on a food waste-to-renewable natural gas project, hosted a tree-planting event, and attended various cleanup events.
SJI and Partners Host Ceremonial Groundbreaking on Linden Renewable Energy Project
On April 16, SJI, in partnership with Captona and RNG Energy Solutions, was proud to break ground on its new Linden Renewable Energy project, one of the largest food waste-to-renewable natural gas facilities in the United States. The project provides additional environmental advantages, offering New York City, Northern New Jersey, and the broader metro region an opportunity to manage their organic waste streams to comply with state and local food waste regulations that require organic waste to be diverted from landfills. It has a target completion date of Q4 2025.
Employees Celebrate Earth Day in the Community
SJI’s Green Team continued its mission of empowering employees to support and create a sustainable environment in local communities by hosting a planting event, “Go Plant It – It’s Your Earth Day,” on April 17 at the company’s Folsom, Atlantic City and Green Lane locations.
The Elizabethtown Gas Energy Assistance Team will be providing valuable utility assistance information to the community at this year’s Earth Day celebration in Woodbridge, NJ, on April 20 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
On April 27, the Green Team will volunteer at Stockton University’s 3rd Annual Community Day Cleanup to help beautify the streets and beach in Atlantic City.

Here are ways to keep cool while reducing energy costs and usage this season:- Turn off fans when rooms are not in use and close shades to keep the house cool.
- Choose natural lighting during the day whenever possible, or consider solar lighting for the outdoor patio or front yard.
- Unplug chargers, devices and appliances when not in use.
- Set a smart thermostat and keep the house warmer than normal when you are away and lower the thermostat setting when you return home and need cooling.
