SJI Hosts Community Food Drive and Employee Events in Honor of Veterans and Fallen Heroes
FOLSOM, NJ, May 22, 2024 – In observance of Memorial Day, South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas, two subsidiaries of SJI, have planned a series of events to honor our veterans and fallen servicemen and women.
SJI Employee Resource Group Organizes Food Drive
The Veterans Engagement Team (VETs), an employee resource group at SJI that supports the personal growth and professional development of former servicemen and women in the South Jersey Gas and Elizabethtown Gas service territories, organized a food drive in collaboration with the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces. Employees donated nearly 3,000 pounds of nonperishable items to benefit active military, veterans and families at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program provides home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals, and also supports military families during deployments and emergencies.
“SJI is proud to partner with the Red Cross Service to Armed Forces to feed the military and veterans through our food drive,” said Adam McLaughlin, Senior Director, Regional Operations, SJI. “These brave men and women have served and sacrificed for our country, so it is rewarding to see the community come together for them in support of a great cause.”
SJI Plans Memorial Day Events
SJI employees set up a missing persons table at their Atlantic City, Elizabethtown and Folsom locations on May 21 to commemorate the more than 81,000 missing Americans from the Korean War, WWII, Vietnam, Cold War, Gulf War and other conflicts. The table will be on display through May 30.
On May 23, employees will distribute poppy pins which will be accompanied with a message about Memorial Day at their Atlantic City, Folsom and Elizabethtown locations. They will also provide red, white and blue paper stars for our employees to acknowledge service members who have sacrificed their lives for our country.
